Children's Genre List for Teacher Education: Traditional Literature

Traditional Literature – This is the stories that began in the oral tradition and have lasted the test of time.  There are numerous versions of many of the stories. Included in this genre are fables, folklore and myths from many cultures and times. In searching for these books, you can use the terms “fables”, “folklore”, and “myths”.  You can add the name of the country, if you are looking for a story from a particular culture.
