Long-Term Technology Loan Request Program

Tech for Success, the long-term technology loan program.

About the Long-Term Technology Loan Program

Thanks to support from the WarriorU Program, the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE), Information Technology (IT), and the University Library & Archives, we can lend qualifying students a laptop for an entire semester. Long-Term Technology Loans at A&M-Central Texas are free to check out, and are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis. We currently have 19 laptops in circulation. Often times, there is a waitlist for library loaner laptops because we run out. If you are on the waitlist, please feel free to call at any time to see where you are on the waitlist. When a laptop is returned, or is available, we past it on as soon as we can and will call and email you when it is ready.

You must meet the following requirements to check out a laptop:
  • You are an actively enrolled student in the current semester who is...
    • living in the Killeen, Texas, or able to travel to Killeen to pick up and return your laptop.
    • in good standing with the University Library & Archives and with the University Business Office. This means you do not have any unpaid damages, late or lost items, or Banner holds.

After you have submitted the form, you will be notified by the library via e-mail about your eligibility and the status of your laptop request. The e-mail will contain instructions on when and where you will pick up the equipment. If you continue to be enrolled for the following academic semester, you can apply to use the equipment until you are no longer registered as a student. When you are no longer enrolled in classes, you must return ALL equipment.

Taking Care of Your Library Loaner Laptop

To keep the laptop going fast...

  • Always shut down or power down your computer after use.
  • Restart your laptop once a month, or whenever you notice it is slowing down.
This is likely because the laptop needs to update.
  • Limit your tabs while using the internet! If you have more than 10 tabs,
you should close them. Multiple tabs open can slow down a computer.
  • Limit the amount of applications you have open.

Things that can negatively impact the laptop...

  • Dropping it on one of its corners/edges. This doesn't happen often. However, if the
laptop is in your school bag and you set your bag down roughly, this can break the screen.
The screens are very delicate. This happens more often.
  • Always keeping your laptop hooked up to power. This can weaken the laptop battery.
Once it is fully charged, unplug it until it needs more power. Some of our laptop models
have weaker batteries / some consume more power, so this isn't realistic for all laptops.
  • Eating or drinking near your laptop. Keep it in a dry temperature controlled place.
  • Leaving your laptop while you go to restroom / do something else. Even if the laptop isn't directly
damaged by you, you are responsible for the repair or replacement cost if something happens to it
    under your care.
