The University Library and Archives is hiring three college students to tutor children in 1st-5th grade. This is a Federal Work Study position that pays $15/hour. Apply between August 4-31, 2025.

Job Description

The Elementary Tutor will assist with the 1st-5th grade tutoring program run by the University Library & Archives. This job provides valuable work experience for college students to help young learners with core subject areas. Please note: This is a Federal Work Study position, so you must be enrolled in at least six credit hours during the working semester. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact our financial aid department for guidance.

Working Hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 pm (If you can work most or all of these hours and are federal work study-eligible, we can work around your class schedule!)

Location: Library Classroom in Warrior Hall

Salary: $15 per hour

Job Duties:

· Offer reading and math homework help for children in 1st-5th grade during the Fall and Spring tutoring programs. 

· Locate developmentally appropriate teaching resources within and beyond the library collection to support instruction. 

· Help organize the classroom to facilitate a positive learning experience.

· Track student progress to better support learners and monitor attendance to ensure child safety.

· Recognize when to direct parent or community requests to the supervisor for follow-up.

· Perform other instructional and administrative duties, as assigned.

 

This position is open to all majors! We have had successful tutors who majored in education, business, computer information systems, history, psychology, and beyond. Experience working with children is preferred, but not required. The most important qualities of a tutor are to be patient, kind, and supportive when teaching or reviewing reading and math concepts with our young learners. Good teamwork skills and time management are essential.
