Thesis Office: Writing

The University Writing Center

Are you struggling with writing at the graduate level? Do you not even know where to begin with your thesis? Is your last thesis chapter covered with commentary from your advisor?

The University Writing Center (UWC) is here to help!

The UWC tutors provide feedback on your writing free from judgment—they just want to help you learn to write better. They serve as a practice audience for your writing and ideas, allowing you to understand how readers may interpret and make meaning from your text while providing guidance and support throughout the writing process. So, before you submit the next draft of your thesis, take it for a test drive with the UWC!

You can schedule a tutorial with a trained and experienced writing tutor by making an appointment via WCOnline at https://tamuct.mywconline.com/. If you have any questions, or just need help with scheduling, you can email Dr. Bruce Bowles Jr. at bruce.bowles@tamuct.edu.

Getting Started

When you start out on a new writing assignment, getting overwhelmed is easy. That's why it's important to take a deep breath, and keep a few things in mind:

  • Find something that interests you--this will make writing much easier.
  • Always have a main argument, or at least an idea of what your main point will be.
  • No one is born writing well. You can learn to write through practice!

You should also remember that writing in your discipline might be different than writing you have done before. Be sure to research what is expected in your area of specialty.
