  • Does Your Research Require Funding, Involve Human Subjects, Address Possible Ethics Issues?...look through the boxes below on Research Considerations, Research with Human Subjects, and Grant Writing.

Research Considerations

When you are planning to do research, you need to consider funding, ethics, study design, and many other factors that could impact your endeavor.

Institutional Review Board: The review board is charged with overseeing research conducted by those affiliated with the University. All human subjects research, including surveys and questionnaires conducted internally, must be reviewed by the IRB.

Research Funding:  Grant funding can help researchers cover the cost of conducting a study. Funding sources including grants from the federal government, as well as private donors.

Consult with Reference Librarian

Did you know that meeting one-on-one with a reference librarian can help make the thesis process easier for you? Here's how they can help:

  • Meeting with a reference librarian can help get your research started by guiding you to databases and other resources (both in-person and online) that deal specifically with your subject areas and showing you the best ways to use them.
  • A reference librarian can assist with "thought block" due to not using the right key terms to find enough research, as well as locating hard to find resources.
  • They can help narrow a search that retrieves thousands of results or broaden one that retrieves only a few.

Drop by the Reference Desk anytime during our open hours, email us at library@tamuct.edu to schedule an appointment with your subject specialist, or contact one of the reference librarians directly.

Remember - one should not rely on Google alone for quality research!
